Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor's Degree in Technology (B.Tech.)
- Department of Electronics and Accreditation of Computer Course B-Level
- Associate Member of Institute of Engineers (AMIE) or Graduate Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (GINATE)
- Master's Degree in Science (M.Sc.)
- Master's Degree in Computer Application (MCA)
- Master's Degree in Engineering or Technology (M.E./M.Tech.)
- Master's Degree in Philosophy (M.Phil.) in relevant fields
Relevant Fields: Physics, Applied Physics, Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Cyber Law, Bioinformatics, Remote Sensing, GIS, Mathematics, Statistics, and other specified disciplines as per the official notification.
Experience Requirements
- Scientist-C: Minimum 4 years of post-qualification relevant experience
- Scientist-D: Minimum 8 years of post-qualification relevant experience
Age Limit
- Scientist-D: Maximum 40 years
- Scientist-C: Maximum 35 years
Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PwBD) as per Government of India rules. The cut-off date for age calculation is 21st November 2022.

Selection Process
The selection process for NIC Scientist Recruitment 2026 consists of three rigorous stages:
Stage 1: Screening Test
This is a qualifying online MCQ test with 150 questions covering Reasoning, Basic Mathematics, English, Aptitude, Attitude, and Leadership Quality. The test duration is 3 hours, conducted in English only. Candidates must score minimum qualifying marks: 60% for General (relaxable to 50% for OBC and 40% for SC/ST/PwBD if sufficient candidates are not available).
Stage 2: Evaluation of Academic Records
Applications qualifying the Screening Test will be evaluated by a Screening Evaluation Committee based on detailed norms provided in Annexure-I (Scientist-C) and Annexure-II (Scientist-D). This evaluation carries a maximum of 120 marks.
Stage 3: Personal Interaction / Interview
Shortlisted candidates will face a Personal Interaction/Interview carrying 30 marks. The final merit list will be prepared based on combined marks from Evaluation (120) and Interview (30), totaling 150 marks.
Important Note: Original document verification will be conducted prior to the interview. Candidates failing to produce required documents will be disqualified.
