Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU) has officially released the notification for B.Ed. Special Education (IDD/HI/VI) and M.Ed. Special Education (IDD/HI) programmes for the academic session 2026-27. Post Details

NSOU invites applications for admission into the following programmes for the academic year 2026-27:

  • B.Ed. Special Education – Specializations: Intellectual Disability (IDD), Hearing Impairment (HI), Visual Impairment (VI)
  • M.Ed. Special Education – Specializations: Intellectual Disability (IDD), Hearing Impairment (HI)

Both programmes are offered through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode and are approved by RCI and UGC-DEB.

Eligibility Criteria

For B.Ed. Special Education

  • Candidates with RCI-recognized D.Ed. in Special Education + Bachelor’s/Master’s degree with 50% marks (55% for Engineering/Technology with Science & Maths).
  • Candidates without D.Ed. Spl. Ed. but with Bachelor’s/Master’s degree with 50% marks (55% for B.E./B.Tech.) are also eligible.
  • Relaxation for reserved categories as per West Bengal Govt. rules.
  • Special weightage for parents of children with disability.

For M.Ed. Special Education

  • B.Ed. Spl. Ed. in IDD/HI with 50% marks + valid RCI Registration, OR
  • B.Ed. General + D.Ed. Spl. Ed. in IDD/HI with 50% marks each, OR
  • PG Diploma in Special Education (recognized by RCI till 2014-15), OR
  • 4-year Integrated B.Ed. Spl. Ed. with 50% marks + RCI Registration.
  • Valid RCI CRR Number is mandatory.

Age Limit

No specific age limit has been prescribed for admission. Candidates of all ages can apply.

Application Fee

Processing Fee: ₹500/- for both programmes (non-refundable).

Programme Fee:

  • B.Ed. Special Education: ₹40,000/- (total course fee)
  • M.Ed. Special Education: ₹85,000/- (₹40,000 at admission + ₹45,000 at 3rd Semester)

Selection Process

Admission is purely based on academic merit. No entrance exam is conducted. Shortlisted candidates will be called for offline central counselling at NSOU Headquarters, Kolkata. The merit list will consider marks obtained in Madhyamik, Higher Secondary, Graduation, Post-Graduation, and relevant Special Education qualifications. Special weightage (10 marks) is given to parents of children with disabilities.
