List of Important Days and Dates in October 2022 – Significance

1st October – International Day of the Older Person

Every year 1st October is observed as “International Day of the Older Persons” to raise awareness about the problems faced by old persons. This year, the theme of International Day of the Older Persons is “2022 UNIDOP: “Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World”. This bill was passed by UN General Assembly on 14 December 1990 and since then, 1st October 2021 is remembered as “International Day of the Older Persons”.

1st October – World Vegetarian Day

World Vegetarian Day is observed annually around the globe on October 1. Established by the North American Vegetarian Society in 1977 and endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978.

1st October – International Coffee Day

International Coffee Day is an occasion that is used to promote and celebrate coffee as a beverage, with events now occurring in places around the world. The first official date was 1 October 2015, as agreed by the then International Coffee Organization and was launched in Milan.

2nd October – International Day of Non-Violence/ Gandhi Jayanti

The International Day of Non-Violence or Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated every year globally on 2 October. International Day of Non-violence is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, father of India and the leader of the Indian Independence movement. 3rd October – World Habitat Day

World Habitat Day is celebrated every year on the first Monday of October. This year, it falls on 3 October. In 2022, World Habitat Day (WHD 2022) under the theme “Mind the Gap. Leave No One and Place Behind” looks at the problem of growing inequality and challenges in cities and human settlements. World habitat day was declared by the UN resolution in 1985 and was first celebrated in 1986. The objective is to minimize the presence of carbon footprints present in our environment.

20th October- National Solidarity Day (China attacked India on this day)

India observes National Solidarity Day on 20th October every year. This day is observed to honour the Armed Forces. On this day in 1962, China had attacked India and the war went on till 21 November 1962. In 1966, a committee constituting PM Indira Gandhi decided to dedicate 20th October as National Solidarity Day.

20th October- World Osteoporosis Day

World Osteoporosis Day is observed annually on 20 October, and launches a year-long campaign dedicated to raising global awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.
