The Ministry of Railways, Government of India, has officially released the Centralised Employment Notice CEN No. 01/2026 for the recruitment of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) across various Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs). This is a golden opportunity for technical graduates, diploma holders, and ITI-certified candidates to secure a prestigious career in Indian Railways. A total of 11,127 vacancies have been notified. Online applications will be accepted from 15 May 2026 to 14 June 2026. Organization Overview

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) operate under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, to recruit technical and non-technical staff for Indian Railways. The ALP post is one of the most sought-after positions, offering job security, attractive pay, and allowances.

Exam Pattern

The selection process comprises five stages: First Stage CBT (CBT-1), Second Stage CBT (CBT-2), Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), Document Verification (DV), and Medical Examination (ME). Below are the detailed patterns.

Subject-wise Syllabus

CBT-1 Syllabus

• Mathematics: Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern.
• Mental Ability: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical Reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions.
• General Science: Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences up to 10th standard level.

CBT-2 Syllabus

Part A (100 marks):

• Mathematics & Reasoning: Same topics as CBT-1 but with higher difficulty.
• Basic Science and Engineering: Engineering Drawing (Projections, Views, Drawing Instruments, Lines, Geometric figures, Symbolic Representation), Units, Measurements, Mass Weight and Density, Work Power and Energy, Speed and Velocity, Heat and Temperature, Basic Electricity, Levers and Simple Machines, Occupational Safety and Health, Environment Education, IT Literacy.

Part B (75 marks, qualifying): Trade-specific questions based on DGT syllabus. Candidates choose one trade from their engineering stream:

• Electrical Engineering: Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Wireman, Armature & Coil Winder, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Mechanic.
• Electronics Engineering: Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio & TV).
• Mechanical Engineering: Fitter, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Tractor Mechanic, Mechanic (Diesel), Turner, Machinist, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Mechanic, Heat Engine, Millwright/Maintenance Mechanic.
• Automobile Engineering: Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Tractor Mechanic, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Mechanic.

Selection Process

1. First Stage CBT (CBT-1): Screening test. Marks not counted in final merit.
2. Second Stage CBT (CBT-2): Shortlisted at 15 times vacancies. Part A determines final merit; Part B is qualifying (35% minimum).
3. Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Shortlisted at 8 times vacancies. No negative marking. Conducted in Hindi/English.
4. Document Verification (DV): Combined merit from CBT-2 Part A (50%) and CBAT (50%).
5. Medical Examination (ME): Must meet A-1 medical standard (vision 6/6 without glasses, no LASIK).
